1,why is it called what it is called? Named after someone? word origin?

This wonderful place is called puerta del sol which means DOOR TO THE SUN. It was built as one of the great doors to the place called madrid in the 15th centry. The name of the gate was the door to the sun and that is what the door is, when the door was made it was made in the east ... in the morrning the sun rise and it will be right at the door like the citizens can walk towards the sun. it was a bueatiful site.

2,Famous people associated with this landmark? Who built it? Who lived there? Who died there? Who is buried there?

Over the years puerta del sol had changed. the use of the wonderful place had turned into post office built by a       french man named maquet in the years of 1766 to 1768. Although it is not as powerful as when it was the door to the        sun its still a place where people gather and talk. The old post office is big but its not all post office in one square it          layed a statue of king Carlos 3rd  and on the other side layed a statue of a bear clawing the madrone tree which is a  strong and powerful symbol of madrid.

3,When was it built?  How long did it take to complete?  Dates of important events?  Any relevant history

attached to this monument?

This building was built in the 15th centry and during the 17th to the 19th centry this place became aimportant          meeting place. Than there came a french man who built a post office during 1766 to 1768 the post office was finnally         built after two years. This building was also used for the Ministry of Interior and State Security during the francisco            franco dictatorship and it is currently the seat of the Presidency of the madrid.

6,Any other cultures, styules influenced its contruction?

Many culture had a influence on puerta del sol. A french man built the post office, the christian live right by and from the look of the statues there are a little Roman in it and last of couse spanish influence.

8,How does this landmark reflect or help define the culture of this region and/or Spain as a whole?

This land mark have many influences and by that there are Roman, French, and spain which gives us alot more influences and like the language the same influence that effected the language effected the works of art.

Madrid-

This is the part of Spain that is found in the middle of Spain. This is found almost directly in the center of the country. Compared to other parts of Spain, madrid is one of the less mountainess regions. All rail roads go through madrid and all highways start at midrid, or the kilometer mile marker will be zero in madrid.
